8 weeks.
I
can’t believe it has been 8 WEEKS since social distancing, quarantine, and
COVID-19 became such common verbiage in my life.
This week
brought about a broken air conditioner BUT God was so gracious to provide
cooler temperatures outside. It was only miserable in the house one day (inside
temp reached 85*), but other than that, we kept the windows open, fans
spinning, and time outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. And, thankfully, it
was not a terribly expensive repair.
Week 8 also
brought on Teacher Appreciation Week. I love this week because it affords me an
opportunity to sit down and write a note to each of my children’s teachers.
This year it was no different, except that my children were unable to
hand-deliver their notes and gifts. We boxed up everything and delivered to the
front door of the school. They will receive their boxes when they come to the
school to pack up for the year. It’s sad, but at least they will know how loved
they are!
Teacher
Appreciation Week also brought me tears of joy, especially since life is so
different this year. A wonderful friend and parent of one of my students organized
a parade for myself and my assistant. Many of my students and their families
participated, and it was a sweet surprise that generated the biggest smiles and
best hugs from some of the kids. They came loaded with a full meal, signs,
balloons, cards, candy, and flowers, among other gifts. I loved seeing them all, and the gifts they
brought were just a bonus!
My school
also organized a parade for all the teachers at the school. The teachers all decorated
a spot in the parking lot and the families drove through. It was a nice gesture
and it was definitely fun to reconnect with my coworkers/friends. Some of them
I haven’t seen since quarantine began! All the teachers were given potted
plants and a gift card for ice cream from a local ice cream stand.
Overall, week 8 will be remembered for all the kindness and love displayed to me by others.
